The Amreli is a Oldest City in Gujarat

Amreli
Histroy of Amerli
Amreli is believed to have existed during 534 AD when it was earlier also known as Anumanaji, Amailk and then Amravati. The ancient Gujarati name of this city is Aravalli. The inscription of the Nagnath temple shows that the ancient name of Amreli city was Amrapali. It was called Girvanavali. In the remains of the ancient city are memorial stones or palia and foundations discovered at the confluence of the rivers Thebi and Vari. And to the west and east of the river are two old temples Kamnath and Trimbak Nath. In the 18th century only the west and south of modern Amreli which is still called Juni or Old Amreli was inhabited. The old inner fort called Juna Court was used as a prison and the Juna Masjid near it is addressed from the old city. The history of modern Amreli dates back to 1793 when Waqf Singh of Bhavnagar captured the Chital of the neighbouring Kathi and drove many of his people to Amreli and Jitpur. Amreli was initially part of the erstwhile Gaekwad of Vadodara. Very little information is available about the historical background of Amreli district before it became part of the then Baroda state. When the Maratha general Damaji Rao Gaekwad conquered Ghati Ward in around 1730.
