Summer has already set in. India experiences like the reverse of England, where summers are nice. This year India experienced its hottest February. We need to know how to stay cool when temperature soars high.

Staying hydrated is essential for overall health and well-being. Proper hydration supports bodily functions, boosts energy levels and enhances cognitive performance. In this guide , we’ll explore various strategies and tips to help you stay adequately hydrated throughout the day. Let’s dive in!

1. STAY HYDRATED: The only key to stay hydrated in summer to drink loads of water throughout the day.

2. OPT FOR FRUITS AND VEGGIES: There is no substitute for juices and vegetables. Juice can be beneficial in summer for several reasons:

i. Hydration: Fruit juices contain water, which helps to keep you hydrated in hot weather. Staying hydrated is essential for regulating body temperature and preventing dehydration.

ii. Electrolytes: Some fruit juices, such as coconut water or watermelon juice, contain electrolytes like potassium and sodium, which are lost through sweat. Replenishing electrolytes helps to maintain proper hydration levels and supports overall bodily function.

iii. Vitamins and minerals: Fruit juices are rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants, which help to support the immune system and protect against oxidative stress caused by sun exposure.

iv. Refreshment: Fruit juices are often refreshing and can help to cool you down on a hot day. Chilled fruit juices or smoothes can be particularly satisfying during summer months.

However, it's important to choose natural fruit juices without added sugars or artificial ingredients to maximize the health benefits.

3. LIMIT YOUR ALCOHOL AND CAFFEIN INTAKE: The less you take alcohol and caffeine the better is for your health. Alcohol is diuretic .Hence it increases urine production and can lead to dehydration. It reduces the risk of heat related illnesses and sunburn.

Caffeine can increase dehydration by promoting urine production, which can be exacerbated during hot weather. It can also lead to increased heart rate and sweating, potentially worsening dehydration. Therefore, avoiding caffeine during summer can help maintain hydration levels and prevent potential heat-related issues.

4. BE SUNSMART: i. Always Wear sunscreen 20 mins before  going out.

ii. Cover your head with a scarf or a hat when you are going out.

5. TAKE A COOL SHOWER: There is nothing refreshing than taking a bath twice and thrice in a day to cool down your body temperature.

6. AVOID GOING OUTSIDE: During summer go outside only when required. If its unavoidable, try to  avoid going outside when the Sun is at its peak. When outdoors stay in the shade as much as you can to avoid direct sunlight.

7. USE SUNGLASSES: Never forget to wear sunglasses which will give  a cooling effect to your eyes as well as give you a smarter look.

8. EAT LIGHT MEALS: Opt for cooler and lighter meals like salad and fruits to avoid feeling overheated.

9. KEEP YOU HOME COOL: During summer use white curtains and white bed sheets. You can use fans or air conditioners. If you are living in a two story building then try to shade your terrace or make a terrace garden.

10. LIMIT YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: If you are a fitness freak it's important to change your routine schedule a bit. Manage your workout time as per weather. Do not overdo things. You can change the mode of exercise as per weather. Do not forget nothing is more important than your health.
