Best Places to Visit in Chitrakoot

1. Kamdgiri- It is a Sanskrit word which means "one that fulfills all desires". There is a pilgrimage path enveloping this hill, whose distance is about 5 km approx. Devotees believe that all the teerthas, or, holy places, lie along the religious route. The principal deity of Chitrakoot is Lord Kamtanath. There are many temples dedicated to Lord Kamtanath apart from the main temple.
2. Sati Anusuya Ashram- is a sacred site, 18 km from the renowned Ramghat in Chitrakoot. It's an integral part of the "Chitrakoot Char Dham." This place was once the ashram of Maharishi Atri and his devoted wife, Mahasati Anasuya. Legend has it that this region suffered a ten-year drought. Anasuya's unwavering penance brought River Mandakini to earth, earning her the name "Sati" for her sacrifice. Even Goddess Sita sought her blessings during her exile with Lord Rama. Anasuya epitomizes devotion, humility, and noble qualities of a devoted woman.
   
3. Hanuman Dhara- is a significant site, situated at the beginning of the Vindhya mountain range, just 4 kilometers from Ram Ghat. It is believed to be the place where Lord Hanuman came to alleviate the burning sensation in his tail after setting Lanka on fire. Legend has it that when Lord Hanuman's tail caught fire in Lanka, causing him great discomfort, he sought Lord Rama's help. In response, Lord Rama created a sacred stream at this spot. Hanuman immersed his tail in the cool waters of this miraculous stream, finding relief instantly. The continuous flow of the stream over his tail eased his pain. Hanuman Dhara is perched atop the Parvat Mala, offering not only spiritual significance but also breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
4. Gupt Godavari Caves- Situated 18 km from Chitrakoot, Gupt Godavari holds a special place in the hearts of devotees. Inside the mountain, you'll find two cave systems, both filled with knee-deep water. One cave is vast with a narrow entrance, while the other is long and narrow. A stream flows mysteriously from deep within, vanishing into the earth. This intriguing phenomenon gives the place its name, Gupt Godavari. The larger cave even features stone-carved thrones, believed to belong to Lord Rama and Lord Laxmana. Wading through the water, you'll embark on an adventurous journey through these caves, leading to the Ram Darbar temple.
